I started reading Detroit: I Do Mind Dying earlier this week and I’m really enjoying it. I find myself partly wishing I had read it before going to Detroit last summer so I could appreciate the history of where I stood, and I’m partly glad I read it after going because I have a frame of reference for some of the things in the book, like Wayne State University.
“Detroit: I Do Mind Dying tells the remarkable story of the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement, based in Detroit, and the League of Revolutionary Black Workers, two of the most important political organizations of the 1960s and 1970.” -from the book description
Never heard of DRUM or the League of Revolutionary Black Workers? I hadn’t either, and it’s why history is such an interesting and important field of study.
