Anniversary of Lumumba’s Assassination

Today is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Congo’s first democratically elected Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba.

His election followed an independence struggle from Belgium the year before. It is widely believed that he was killed by the United States and Belgium.

The 2000 film Lumumba is a great look into his story, and I recommend it.
